Our Sustainability Story

Who We Are
The Oxford Commission on Sustainability Data (OCSD) is a collaborative initiative based at Kellogg College, University of Oxford, which was formed in response to the pressing need for reliable data to guide sustainable practices.
The Commission assembles a team of academics and professionals, including software engineers, data analysts, tax compliance specialists, and sustainability experts, to develop a market-driven, data-driven framework for sustainability.
The Commission recognizes that every company operates through software-driven processes that generate detailed transactional data. If made accessible and auditable, this data can provide a precise picture of an organisation’s sustainability footprint. OCSD is pioneering methods to transform this raw data into verified business intelligence, enabling real-time sustainability insights.
We are now working with companies to prototype this methodology. We aim to establish a set of global data standards that will ensure sustainability metrics are transparent, verifiable, and universally accessible. Building on efforts like the Global Data Commons, and working alongside governments and international platforms such as COP, the Commission drives accountability, fosters innovation, and supports a more truthful, data-driven transition to a sustainable global economy.
